Who should attend this workshop?
- New Product Development and R&D engineers, IoT and wearable tech enthusiasts, DIYers, and health tech innovators.
What will you get to learn and master?
- Phase 1: Wearable IoT Device Design
- Design wearable IoT devices such as smartwatches and health monitoring systems
- How to integrate sensors for real-time health monitoring (e.g., heart rate, SpO2, and activity tracking)
- How to design the smallest wearable phone with essential functionalities
- How to transfer sensor data to a mobile app or web server using Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) or WebSockets
- How to ensure data privacy and security for wearable IoT devices
- Design PCB for wearable devices using CAD software for manufacturing
- Create enclosures for wearable devices using CAD software for production-ready prototypes
- What are wearable IoT compliance requirements, and how to design devices to certify with compliance and certifications?
- Phase 2: Advanced Wearable Tech and AI
- BONUS: How to create a Machine Learning (ML) model to analyze health data collected from wearable devices
- How to deploy ML models onto microcontrollers (MCUs) or single-board computers (SBCs) for real-time health insights
- How to design AI-based algorithms for predictive health monitoring (e.g., anomaly detection for heart conditions)
- BONUS: 3D designing and prototyping of enclosures for market-ready wearable products
What should you already know to learn and benefit?
- Basic knowledge of working with an embedded systems environment
- Basic knowledge of how to use IDEs to program boards
- Familiarity with CAD software (e.g., Fusion 360 or KiCAD) is a plus but not mandatory
What do you need to get to attend?
- You must bring your own laptop with Arduino IDE and a CAD software (e.g., KiCAD or Fusion 360) pre-installed
- Laptop must have Wi-Fi connectivity and a USB port
- Mobile phones/devices with internet connectivity to help you connect to the internet
What will be the setup at the workshop?
- We will create multiple teams with 4 to 5 attendees in each team
- A complete hardware kit (including sensors, MCUs, and prototyping materials) will be provided to each team, which will be taken back at the end of the workshop
- Source code and CAD templates will be provided for you to copy and paste to reduce delays
- Each team will follow the instructions of the faculty (step-by-step) and learn hands-on
What will you be able to do after attending this workshop?
- Develop a complete wearable IoT system, such as a smartwatch or health monitoring device
- Design and prototype the smallest wearable phone with essential features
- Convert your wearable design into a PCB and enclosure ready for manufacturing
- Develop an AI/ML model to analyze health data from wearable sensors
- Protect and maintain wearable devices for consumer and medical applications
- Deploy AI-based health monitoring algorithms for preventive care
